Finalmente Intel e GE hanno deciso di stipulare una joint venture paritaria, 50/50, al fine di sfruttare il filone della telemedicina.
La nuova società che si dovrà costituire sarà composta dalla divisione di GE Healthcare’s Home Health e Intel’s Digital Health Group con una composizione alla pari.
In realtà è da circa un anno che se ne parla perchè le due società condividono la stessa visione e gli stessi propositi commerciali e tecnologici.
Intel, per voce del presidente e amministratore delegato Paul Otellini, ha fatto presente:
New models of care delivery are required to address some of the largest issues facing society today, including our aging population, increasing healthcare costs and a large number of people living with chronic conditions… We must rethink models of care that go beyond hospital and clinic visits, to home and community-based care models that allow for prevention, early detection, behavior change and social support. The creation of this new company is aimed at accelerating just that.
Il chairman di GE e CEO Jeff Immelt ha ribadito l’interesse e gli obiettivi del nuovo accordo:
Controlling healthcare costs while bringing quality care to an increasingly aging population is one of the largest global challenges we face today. We think this joint venture will offer great potential to address these challenges by improving the quality of life for millions while lowering healthcare costs through new technology. This new company is the next step forward in a healthcare partnership that combines the complementary expertise and capabilities of GE and Intel to accelerate the development of innovative home health technology.
GE e Intel, mediante un comunicato stampa congiunto, dato dato evidenza dell’accordo e hanno ribadito che la nuova società sarà operativa dalla fine dell’anno.
La sede della nuova società sarà presso Sacramento, California, e il suo primo CEO sarà sicuramente Louis Burns che attualmente è vice presidente e general manager del gruppo Digital Health di Intel.
