Da VIA Lab il suo primo host controller con quattro porte USB nella versione SuperSpeed, USB 3.0.
Il prodotto è il primo di una nuova serie, identificato come VL800, ed è un host controller in grado di supportare l’ultima versione del bus seriale USB 3.0.
Il prodotto utilizza una bus PCI Express al fine di garantire la connettività verso il nuovo standard seriale.
David Hsu, vicepresidente di VIA Labs ha anche rilasciato un comunicato nel quale si afferma l’assoluta fiducia del prodotto:
VIA Labs is currently the only company in the world to offer a USB 3.0 host controller with support for four downstream ports, (…). The VL800 is an easy and cost effective way for motherboard manufacturers to bring additional USB 3.0 performance to their product lines, it means increased design opportunities for system integrators, and of course it means consumers can use more of their USB 3.0 devices at the same time.
VL800 risulta essere compatibile anche con le precedenti versioni dello standard. In effetti, si parte dalla configurazione Low-Speed (1.5 Mbps) fino ad arrivare all’High-Speed (480 Mbps) passando dal Full-Speed (12 Mbps).
